As the seed is placed in the moist soil, its outer surface begins to rot, revealing a “kusta dechiusa” - a spark of life from which growth begins. A seed may lie dormant for centuries with its potential for life unfulfilled. Not until it descends into the earth and receives the nutrients it needs will it come to life.
This Tisha B’Av, as you sit on the ground, allow your tears to moisten the soil around your inner seed, rotting away the layers preventing your “kusta dechiusa” from coming to life—transforming the darkness of the day into an opportunity for growth and rebirth. Comments are closed.
